I would call that right angle improv piecing. Indeed, I sew groups, somehow at random, trying to reach a right angle "block" each time, with the help of a ruler. At one point the surface is covered. There's a lot to read about the people, the quilts and the traditions. I just took the technique, which makes it so easy to take one's work along where ever we go.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><i><span style="font-family: inherit;">Grâce à une amie, notre groupe de patchwork s'est essayé au "kawandi". </span></i></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><i><span style="font-family: inherit;">Cette tradition textile vient du peuple Siddi, d'origine africaine, arrivés en Inde suite au trafic d'esclaves ou de l'immigration. Il y a beaucoup à lire et à apprendre à propos des gens, des quilts et des traditions. Lay squares or rectangles of fabrics and as you go. Hand stitch with fine cotton.</p><p>The technique is quite addictive, as it is all made by hand, and one doesn't have to obsess on small regular stitches. </p><p><i><br /></i></p><p><i>On prend un tissu de fond, une ouatine TRES fine, et on commence depuis le bord extérieur en direction du centre. So I dug into my scraps, half finished quilts and projects in limbo. I decided to make this light and dark piece, after having played with the blocks for several weeks. It's a tradition to make a group quilt at each wedding. Last time we asked every guest in advance for a strip of fabric in warm colours. C'est la tradition de réaliser un quilt de groupe à l'occasion de chaque mariage.
