The Yao Long Hair women in South China wrap their very long hair on top of their head, and then in a black piece of fabric. In the middle and at each corner, there are tiny cross stitch squares, very discreet. But when you really see them, you really marvel at the fineness, the smallness and the perfection of the stitches.
The Yao Long Hair women cut their hair only twice in their life, at 18 and at 38. They take great care of their hair and sometimes add locks inherited from their mother or grand mother.


Les femmes Yao Cheveux Longs en Chine du Sud enroulent leur très longs cheveux au sommet de leur tête, puis dans un morceau de tissu noir. Au milieu et aux quatre coins, de cette pièce, il y a de minuscules carrés en points de croix, très discrets. Ce n'est que quand vous avez ce couvre-chef dans les mains que vous réalisez la finesse, la petitesse et la perfection des points.
Les femmes Yao Long Cheveux se coupent les cheveux deux fois dans leur vie, à 18 ans et à 38 ans. Elles prennent grand soin de leur cheveux, qu'elles enrichissent quelques fois de mèches héritées de leur mère ou grand-mère.

Land art and lost art

Last week-end I ant with my husband to the Journées des Plantes inhabituelles at Vaumarcus. there we followed a path where passers-by could make land art with what they found on the ground.


Le week-end passé, je suis allée avec mon mari aux Journées des Plantes inhabituelles à Vaumarcus. Nous y avons suivi un sentier où les passants pouvaient faire du Land art, en utilisant ce qu'ils trouvaient par terre.

This inspired my husband to carve a flower out of a branch, using a traditional way, now mostly lost in our area.


Cela a inspiré mon mari à sculpter une fleur dans une branche, utilisant une méthode traditionnelle, en principe perdue dans notre région.

Here is our little flower somewhere in the woods.

Voici notre petite fleur quelque part dans les bois.

In the field of wooden flowers, but more sophisticated, do you know the work of Yoshihiro Suda? He carves tiny plants or wooden flowers, very finely, hyperrealistic, and puts a maximum or one or two sculptures in a museum room, and sometimes you have to try hard to find them. I remember being on all four at the Maison du Japon in Paris, trying to see a miniature plant in the heating system!

Dans le registre des fleurs en bois, mais plus sophistiquées, connaissez-vous le travail de Yoshihiro Suda? Il sculpte des mini plantes ou des fleurs en bois, très fines, hyperréalistes et en pose une ou deux maximum dans une salle de musée, et quelques fois il faut bien les chercher. Je me rappelle  me mettre à quatre pattes à la Maison du Japon à Paris pour apercevoir une minuscule pousse verte sous la grille du chauffage!

Kite / Cerf-volant

Here is an example on how to apply simple patchwork techniques to kite making. The two deltas are the first to emerge from our kite club's workshop last week-end. 

Sometimes this year I hope to share a picture of the seven kites we made, all in different colors, all flying together in the sky!

Voici un exemple montrant comment appliquer de simples techniques de patchwork à la fabrication de cerf-volants. Ces deux deltas sont les premiers à émerger de l'atelier de notre club de cerf-volant du week-end dernier. 

Une fois cette année, j'espère pouvoir vous montrer une photo des sept cerf-volants que nous avons construit, tous volant en même temps dans le ciel.
