Birmingham 2012 / John Gillow


If you have the opportunity to go to the Festival of Quilts in Birmingham, don't miss John Gillow. He is seated in a small booth, surrounded with hundred of treasures coming out of plastic bags. No categories or fine gallery like hanging. You have to dig and find your own love at first site. His collections cover all parts of the world where hand made textiles are a tradition. John is a well known textile expert and has written several beautiful books on the subject, see list below.

Si vous avez l'occasion d'aller au Festival of Quilts à Birmingham, ne manquez pas John Gillow. Il est assis dans un petit stand, entouré de centaines de trésors sortis de sacs en plastique. Pas de catégorie ou d'accrochage de galerie. Vous devez creuser et trouver vous même votre coup de coeur. Ses collection couvrent toutes les parties du monde où les textiles faits à la main sont une tradition. John est un expert textile mondialement reconnu qui a écrit de nombreux et magnifiques livres sur le sujet, voir liste ci-dessous.

  2. Oh how I would love to sit and chat with Mr. John Gillow! Before Japan, we lived in Pakistan and Egypt, how many days I spent drinking tea and pouring over textiles in little shops in the souq! I miss those times, but Maryline if you ever consider coming to Japan I will take you kimono shopping at the shrine sales!
