Blue/Orange Quilt, Episode 6

The Blue/Orange quilt is finished and is called "Radiance". It will be part of the Neuchâtel Patchwork exhibition opening on April 26. It is machine pieced and quilted with a Sashiko machine.

Here is the back, and you can see how the back stitch of the Sashiko machine looks: like a regular machine stitch.

In fact, there is only one thread, on the bobbin, and the needle is more like a hook. It picks up the thread from the bobbin, makes a stitch, and then drops the thread again. Very interesting process. Which makes the machine a bit sensitive with thick layers.

  3. Mary it looks wonderful! The stitching by the Sashiko machine looks amazing on both sides. What a great machine it is, but very expense - nearly $4000 AUD.
