Ancient way to wax fabrics to make them waterproof
Last fall, as I visited the open air museum in Ballenberg, I discovered something extraordinary I had never heard of before. It's the ancient method of waxing clothes, called "cold ironing", or in german "glandrieren".
It is necessary to rub the fabric with a piece of wax first, then one has to move the wooden arm back and forth, endlessly. In so doing, one rolls a big glass marble attached at the end of the arm. This action warms the wax very slightly and makes it penetrate into the fibers.

Around a hundred. That's how many different Liberty fabrics I own. I know, I should put them in a safe!
I've been bying them since I was 18, so I'm sure some are collectors items! I love them so much that I rarely do anything with them. I hate to cut my Liberty fabrics!
A peu près cent.

I've even bought pre-cut shapes to make according to the English hand piecing method, but never got around to start it.
Nevertheless, I keep them dearly, Liberty fabrics are eternal!
