The making of a new quilt

I get a lot of questions on how I make a quilt and where I find inspiration. Here are some steps in making a improv quilt. 

I have the vague idea of making something in caramel tones, but don't know yet with which color accent... I start from there... 

On me demande souvent comment je fais un quilt et où je trouve l'inspiration. Voici quelques étapes dans la confection d'un quilt improvisé. 

J'ai une idée vague, je vais faire quelque chose dans les tons caramel, mais je j'ai pas encore décidé quelle sera la couleur accent...

First try with some violet...

Premier essai avec du mauve...

Second try with turquoise...

Deuxième essai avec du turquoise...

Third try with fuchsia... I decide to use this pink accent in my quilt.

Troisième essai avec du fuchsia... Je décide d'utiliser ce pink dans mon quilt.

I like to mark the final size of the quilt I want to make with pins and a black thread on my pinning board. I't very helpful...

J'aime délimité la taille finale du quilt que je veux faire avec des épingles et un fil noir sur mon panneau d'affichage.

I start playing with fabrics and free hand cut and sewn pieces...

Je commence à jouer avec des tissus et des morceaux coupés et cousus à main levée...

After a while things start to take shape...

Après quelques temps, les choses prennent forme...

I took the opportunity to quilt this new with my Sashiko machine...

J'ai profité de cette occasion pour quilter avec ma machine Sashiko...

It makes a lovely stitch, similar to hand quilting.

Elle fait un superbe point, semblable à un point main.
